Italy and Ireland go head to head on Monday evening in what could be both teams final match of Euro 2012, as William Hill report that their offer of increased odds on Italy’s Andrea Pirlo to score at anytime at 9/2 (increased from 15/8) is attracting plenty of attention from punters.
Ireland are already out of the competition after losing both of their matches whereas Italy know that nothing other than a win will do for them if they are to reach the quarter-finals.
- BEST BET : The odds speak for themselves as we have to back Pirlo’s massive price of 9/2 to score anytime with William Hill – he was outstanding against Croatia and Italy will be going for goals. Get on.
Looking at Italy to begin with, they have drawn both their games in the tournament so far after letting a 1-0 lead slip in each encounter.
Claudio Prandelli will think that his team should have maximum points from their opening matches, but they have been left to rue missed chances and not being able to see a game out.
Italy seem to be lacking a natural goal-scorer and have been wasteful in and around the penalty area. While Mario Balotelli’s performances have been good, he has not taken his chances when in good positions and knows he will be judged on goals scored.
With Spain and Croatia two points ahead of them, Prandelli’s side need a win in this one and will hope there is a winner in the groups other match. You can back them at 1/4 to come out on top in against the Irish.
As for Ireland, they went into the tournament knowing it would be a tough ask to progress from such a difficult group, however they would have hoped to of put up more of a fight.
Giovanni Trapattoni’s men have conceded seven goals in their two matches in Euro 2012 so far, something that will infuriate the Italian manager.
This is now their opportunity to restore some pride and come out of the competition with their heads held high. They also owe it to the other teams in the group to put in a good performance.
In terms of betting on Ireland, they are big outsiders to be victorious against Italy with odds of 10/1.
